Hey Farm following. Check out my new Kona Entourage!
I wanted a mini-DH bike that I could take to Whistler, but that would be at home at Post Canyon or Black Rock. I decided to forgo a normal full-blown DH rig and go for something a bit lighter and more fun in the air. The Kona Entourage fits that bill perfectly. The bike has a super short chainstay at 16.3″ and a fairly slack headtube angle at 65 degrees.
I built it up with a Fox Vanilla 36 RC2 fork with 180mm of travel, a Vivid Air R2C2 rear shock with 170mm of travel. The wheelset is the brand new 2013 Easton Havoc UST 150. Saint cranks, e.13 chainguide, Sram X.O rear derailleur, Shimano XT brakes, deity pedals, and Easton Havoc bar and stem round out this rad build. The bike is impressively light at 36lbs 1 oz.
Tubeless tires and the Vivid air rear shock help keep the weight down.
Kona’s complete Entourages come with a 170mm Rock Shox Lyrik fork. The 170mm gives the bike a 65 degree headtube angle. My Entourage is built up with the Fox Float 36 with 180mm of travel. This extra 10mm gives the bike a 64.2 degree headtube angle. This means that this build is far closer to their DH bike in terms of headtube angle. Hopefully that’ll help on some of the steeper parts of Wildcat or Trillium.
