Fat Tire Farm-Portland's Premier Mountain Bike Shop

The Pacific Northwest's Premiere Mountain Bike Shop

Fat Tire Farm is the premiere mountain bike shop in the Pacific Northwest.

We carry Santa Cruz, Yeti, Ibis, Juliana, Orbea, Devinci, Deity, Specialized, and Rocky Mountain.

The Farm has expert mechanics who can service and repair any bike, or build the custom bike of your dreams.

File under: Why?

Sometimes fads get carried away.  Strike that, most fads inevitably get taken too far.  Here's an example of the fatbike trend wading into waters it should steer clear of.

At first glance, it looks like a nice, Niner RDO.  Take a closer look at the front wheel here: http://www.bikerumor.com/2013/01/30/kniner-kramp9-rdo-2/#more-53993

I love the comments at the bottom of the post: "Why would one run a XX1 crankset on 10s if you’re still going to (have to?) still run a chain guide?"  Clearly he's missing the point.  Did you not see the front wheel?!?!

Sigh....  Why ruin a great handling bike by adding a ton of weight to the front-end?  Why limit the travel of your fork, not to mention risk having it catapult you when you bottom out the arch on the tire?

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
